The district court of Sankhuwasabha has sentenced Durgaman Rai, 19, of Panchkhapan Municipality-3 to 12 years and six months in jail for raping a 16-year-old girl.
A bench of Justice Shanti Prasad Acharya found him guilty and ordered him to pay NPR 50,000 as compensation to the victim on April 6, 2022.
According to the court, Rai was fined NPR 5,000 as fine and ordered to deposit NPR 2,200 in the victim’s relief fund.
The victim had lodged a complaint against the accused at the District Police Office on April 29, 2021 accusing him of raping the victim.
Based on the victim’s complaint, the police arrested the accused from Panchkhapan on the same day and registered a case against him in the district court on May 19.
A bench of District Court Judge Shanti Prasad Acharya had remanded the accused in custody for trial on May 21.
The victim was examined at the District Hospital on May 1.
