Metropolitan Police Circle Balaju has started investigation against Shree Krishna Bidari of Tarakeshwor Municipality-10 Nepaltar for forcing his tenant to leave for being Dalit.
Dipa Nepali (28) of Kailali Ghodaghodi Municipality-4 filed a complaint against her landlord Shree Krishna Bidari on 5 March 2020 after he pressured her time and again to leave the room and had locked her room in her absence on 16 February 2020. After her complaint, police has started investigation on the case.
The victim filed complaint against her landlord Bidari and his wife Radhika along with the other tenant family of Janak Dhungana and his wife Santoshi, informed DSP Ranjit Singh Rathore.
Rathore added that investigation began after the complaint but no one was arrested during the investigation process. Dipa had been living in Bidari’s house along with her brother and sister since 29 November 2019.
The landlord had pasted a notice of 35 days for them to leave after knowing that Dipa and her family was Dalit.
Dipa said according to Bidari, they were forced to leave because of his mother’s annual death rituals wherein having Dalit in their house is supposed to be inappropriate for them and the community.
Dipa is the student of Masters Level in Tribhuwan University. Before this she was living in the hostel but now after her siblings arrived, they started living in rent.
Landlord Bidari claims of not doing any kind of caste-based discrimination and not pressuring her to leave the room.
Bidari also blamed Dipa of bringing out this topic due to a dispute related to water supplies that took place in the house.
