Two-day Provincial-Level Human Rights Defenders Orientation Program in Surkhet

The two-day Provincial-Level Human Rights Defenders Orientation Program by INSEC began in Birendranagar, Surkhet, on June 9. Narayan Subedi, Coordinator of INSEC Karnali Province Office, informed that the orientation has been organized to discuss the situation of human rights defenders, the challenges they face in their work, and possible solutions. According to him, the participants will be informed about the rights of human rights defenders, the challenges they encounter, relevant national and international policies, their implementation status, and the situation of women human rights defenders.

Ramesh Kumar Thapa, Chief of the National Human Rights Commission Karnali Province Office, stated that human rights defenders have increasingly been at risk in recent times and emphasized that the state should take the initiative in formulating appropriate policies. The orientation program was attended by 26 human rights defenders from Humla, Dolpa, Dailekh, Salyan, Jajarkot, and Surkhet districts.
