The two-day provincial level orientation program for human rights defenders in Karnali Province concluded on June 10. Narayan Subedi, Coordinator of INSEC Karnali Province Office, said the program aimed to discuss the situation of human rights defenders, the challenges they face in their work, and possible solutions. He added that the event also covered existing national and international policies, their implementation status, and the situation of women human rights defenders.


Ramesh Kumar Thapa, Chief of the National Human Rights Commission Karnali Provincial Office, Pitambar Dhakal, Coordinator of the Human Rights Defenders Network Karnali, Madan Paudel, Chief of the Documentation Department at INSEC, Uttam Gautam, Undersecretary at the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Law, Pabitra Shahi, Executive Director of Aawaj, and Tika Ram Acharya, Executive Director of SAC Nepal provided training to the human rights defenders.
A total of 26 human rights defenders from Humla, Dolpa, Dailekh, Salyan, Jajarkot, and Surkhet participated in the orientation program. The discussion team also included Tomas Millar, Chief of Political Department at the EU Embassy, Enbuska Petra, representative of the Embassy of Finland, Bijay Raj Gautam, Executive Director of INSEC, Basanta Gautam, representative of Advocacy Forum, and Pratiksha Karki from COCAP.
