A meeting of the Lumbini Province-level Environmental Human Rights Committee, under the project jointly run by DCC Nepal and the Informal Sector Service Center (INSEC), was held on November 17 in Nepalgunj. The program was chaired by Committee Chair Humakanta Kandel. The meeting reviewed the environmental impacts of climate change and human activities in Lumbini Province and their effects on human livelihoods.
In recent days, environmental impacts caused by cement factories, brick kilns, crushers, and other unplanned physical development such as dust, smoke, and pollution have been increasing, leading to issues like compromised food rights, drying of water sources, and water contamination. Accordingly, the committee decided to collaborate with partner organizations to play an effective role in protecting environmental rights. At the meeting, INSEC Lumbini Province Coordinator Bhola Mahat emphasized that environmental pollution is a serious human rights issue and urged continuous vigilance. During the program, Dammar Sunar from the B group organization conducted an orientation on the topic of climate change and its impact on environmental rights.
Environmental human rights activists from Banke, Bardiya, Dang, Kapilvastu, Arghakhanchi, Rupandehi, and Nawalparasi, among other districts, were present at the meeting.
