The Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) has provided financial assistance of Rs. 10,000 to a 16-year-old rape survivor to support her participation in the judicial process. The survivor’s family had submitted an application for financial assistance to INSEC Dhanusha Representative Santosh Kumar Yadav on June 23 after facing difficulties in attending court proceedings.
The One-Stop Crisis Management Centre (OCMC) under the Provincial Hospital, Janakpurdham, had also sent a letter to the Madhesh Province Office on June 23 requesting support for the survivor. Based on the application and the recommendation letter, the assistance amount was handed over at the OCMC on May 23, according to INSEC Province Coordinator Raju Paswan.
The survivor’s family had filed a complaint with the District Police Office against Jayaram Mahato, 39, also known as Uday, of Kshireshwornath Municipality-9, accusing him of raping the girl on April 17. Police arrested the accused on the same day. The survivor underwent a medical examination at the Provincial Hospital on April 18. According to police, a bench of the Dhanusha District Court on May 19 ordered that the accused be sent to Sindhuli Jail for pretrial detention pending further investigation and trial.
