Human Rights Group Meeting Concluded in Baijnath

Under the Protection Project in partnership between DC Nepal and the Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC), a meeting of the Baijnath Rural Municipality–level Human Rights Group was held on November 14, 2025 at Araniko Bazaar, Baijnath Rural Municipality–5.

The meeting, chaired by the group’s chairperson Sonu Singh BK, discussed the status of human rights at the ward and municipal levels and the situation of citizens’ access to education, health, agriculture, environmental rights, and physical infrastructure provided by the local authority.

The meeting formulated a work plan, including coordinating with Baijnath Rural Municipality to conduct awareness programs, facilitating those deprived of services, debating and advocating for victims who can obtain justice, coordinating with adolescents to carry out sanitation work in the neighborhood, conducting the group’s annual audit, and completing the annual general assembly for the annual progress and financial report.

In the meeting, the group’s chairperson, Sanu Singh BK, advised that small efforts to solve problems will gradually make the village and neighborhoods clean and beautiful, and reduce distortions and irregularities over time, emphasising the need for continuous efforts.

The group’s vice-chairperson, Tulsi Gyawali, stated that the group has been facilitating issues related to domestic violence, child rights, and child marriage, and that problems have been resolved smoothly without hassle or expense, which has increased confidence in working within the group.

Human Rights Group member Megh Raj Khadka highlighted that awareness programs need to be conducted because the community lacks knowledge about human rights and social harmony.

Human Rights Group member Kalpana Thapa Magar stated that the citizens of Baijnath Rural Municipality–3 were previously forced to walk on dark roads. To solve this problem, a coordination committee was formed with the involvement of youth, funds were collected, and neighborhood cleaning was carried out. Streetlights were installed, bringing flickering light to the roads. She added that a decision was made to conduct mandatory cleaning every Saturday, which has been implemented.

An elderly single woman from Jagwa Tole, Baijnath Rural Municipality–2, expressed her regret that although she was selected for government-provided services and facilities, she was deprived of them due to lack of information. Through her facilitation, the rural municipality provided assistance in the form of Rs. 50,000 worth of roofing sheets. The elderly single woman expressed satisfaction after being able to install the roof. Physically disabled Human Rights Group member Bed Prasad Acharya also shared his experience.

The meeting was facilitated by INSEC Project Officer Teknath Acharya.
