Police Shoots A Local To Death In Jhapa

Rasikul Alam (38) of Jhapa Rural Municipality-3 was killed in chaos that arose after Nepal Police and the Armed Police Force arrested Abdul Salam, 52 and Tajbul Haque, 50, of Jhapa Rural Municipality-3 on August 26 on charges of slaughtering a bull.

Tension between the locals and the police escalated after the police prepared to bring the two accused to the District Police Office.

After the locals attacked the police with domestic weapons, police started firing. Som Nath Portel, Chief of the District Coordination Committee, said that Rasikul died while undergoing treatment at the B&B Hospital.

He described the incident as “tragic” as security forces air fired to save lives and control the situation with restraint.

The post-mortem of the body has been conducted at Mechi Zonal Hospital on August 27. The dispute between the locals and the police has ended after the police released the two arrested men on the August 26.
