Commission Requests Government To Provide Information To Local Levels About COVID Infected People

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has urged the government to provide necessary and adequate information in a timely manner to all the people’s representatives at all local levels as the infection of COVID-19 is increasing day by day in the country.

The Commission has written to the Government of Nepal, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Health and Population and the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration to provide information on COVID infected to the local level and to protect the right to health of the civilians. The commission has released a press statement on August 16 and informed regarding it.

The commission has stated in the statement that the local levels have complained that they have not been able to get the information from the District Public Health Office and the Ministry of Health about the people infected with COVID-19 in their locality. They have also shared that they have not received any information about the number of infected people in their locality and are unable to take steps for the protection of families and communities.

In addition, it is stated that if the spokesperson of the Ministry of Health also clarified the areas and businesses localities of Kathmandu where the infected people belonged to in the daily status update, it will be easier for the local levels to remain more cautious.

A statement issued by the Secretary and Spokesperson of the Commission, Ved Bhattarai, urged all local levels and the Government of Nepal to be sensitive to prevent the spread of infectious diseases at the community level, protect the right to health of the general public and the right to live in a fearless environment.
