Child Marriage Stopped With The Initiative of INSEC, Police and Villagers

A child marriage between a 16-year-old girl of Agnisair Krishna Sawaran Rural Municipality-4 Banauli and 32-year-old Bindeshwar Das of Bishnupur Rural Municipality -6 Ranjitpur has been stopped on August 14 after the initiative of villagers, police and INSEC.

Sanjay Kumar Das, brother of the victim, said that the child marriage was stopped with the help of police and INSEC.

Informing that child marriage was about to take place, Ajay Kumar Das, brother of the girl, came to the office of INSEC Saptari and requested the INSEC representative to help them stop the marriage.

The villagers said that the car sent by the groom to take the girl dressed in wedding attire was sent back empty by the villagers and the marriage was stopped.

The INSEC representative called Police Constable Mahesh Prasad Baitha of Police Station of Diman and asked him to stop child marriage and keep an eye on secret child marriages.

Police Constable Baitha, who reached the girl’s house, had stopped the child marriage and warned the girl’s family not to get her married before reaching a legal age or else legal action would be taken against them.

The girl’s father said that he decided to get his daughter married after the groom’s family agreed to marry the girl without a dowry.
