Civil Society Organizations Should be Strong: Concerned Authorities

Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) has organized a virtual meeting among CSOs to interact about the ongoing CSO governing law reform process and issues on 30 June 2020.

The meeting aimed to enhance the CSOs activism to monitor the CSO related law reform process and bringing the ongoing status of law drafting into the knowledge of CSOs for their collective advocacy.

Dr. Indira Shrestha, Chairperson of INSEC, stressed that the process of law reform should be transparent and voices of CSOs should be heard during the process.

Executive Director of INSEC, Mr. Bijay Raj Gautam, highlighted that the interaction will bring the CSOs in common understanding and collaboration for the future strategies to make CSO friendly legal environment.

Mr. Jit Ram Lama, Chairperson of NGO Federation of Nepal shared the ongoing status of law reform by highlighting the issues of registration, renewal, punishment, tax concerns and regulating mechanism for CSOs.

Chairperson of Nepalese Journalist Federation Nepal, Mr. Gobinda Acharya, shared that the status of CSOs operation and regulation should be ensured in line with the constitutional mandates.

Senior legal and policy advisor of FHI 360, Mr. Tanka Raj Aryal, has suspected that there is the risk to accept the single law to regulate CSO sector because the chances of control will be higher from one door legal approach.
