Lack Of Medicines And Toilets at Health Posts Impacts Beneficiaries

The beneficiaries of the Purainiya health post of Feta Village Municipality-7 have complained of shortage of medicines and toilets.

The health post has been operating in the dilapidated building of the then VDC for 16 months since the roof of the health post building was blown away by the storm on 31 March 2019.

Due to incessant rain, the medicines were soaked due to water leakage, maternity service was shut down, and there was no drinking water and toilet, informed Ruppari Devi Sah. She informed INSEC Bara District Representative Bhola Nath Poudel about her suffering when she reached the health post on July 31.

Nagina Sah (24) of the same place had come to get medicine for herself, she informed INSEC representative and enquired about the maternity service for her family member. She also informed about complaining at the ward office but they did not to pay attention to the problem.

The condition of the health post has affected the locals’ right to health. Anil Pandey, chief of the health post, said that in case of emergency or serious illness, the ambulance has to be stopped 500 meters away from the health post and the patient has to be carried.

Chief Pandey said that they were compelled to stop maternity service as there was only one room out of the five required. He urged the INSEC representative to take initiative to solve the problem as there was no improvement even after informing the concerned authorities.

Health Assistant Sanjay Sah informed that out of 35 types of free medicines available, only 30 types are available but are soaked in water.

The Rural Municipality Chairman Amirilal Prasad informed that the construction of the health post building, toilets, drinking water, and roads will be completed by mid-July of the current fiscal year.

He said that they had missed out on constructing the health post while they were constructing houses during the storm.
