Corona Virus: Status Update of Karnali Province

There were 106 swab tests conducted out of 501 in the Provincial Hospital at Surkhet. All the tests were found negative. In total there are 3780 quarantine bed in which 743 are being used and 209 have returned home. There are 466 isolation beds and only one person is kept in it. 45 health desks are conducting the tests.

According to the District Representative of Mugu, Jivan Sejuwal, more than 100 ladies of Chhayanath Rara Municipality- 3 and 5 have been disobeying the lockdown and entering Rara National Park for firewood. They were arrested and counselled regarding the consequences that can follow after the disobedience. The national park has been instructed not to let in anybody.

According to the District Representative of Dailekh, Amar Sunar, Dullu Municipality has decided on giving encouragement incentive to the health workers working for the prevention and control of Coronavirus. According to the decision, the Medical officers will be getting Rs 3,000, the employees will get 2,000 and other non-ranked employees will be getting 1,500 as their encouragement incentive.

According to District Representative Durga Thapa, Birendranagar Municipality distributed food-grains to 66 hundred needy families. They distributed 15kg rice to a family of three and 30kgs to a family of more than four. They also distributed soaps.

According to the District Representative of Rukum West, Manisha K.C, member of the representative assembly and former Home Minister Janardhan Sharma has brought needed health equipment for the treatment of Coronavirus. They brought 60 sets of PPE, 720 pcs sanitizers, 32 pcs of thermal guns, 2,000 pcs of gloves and 30pcs of masks. Before this a well, he had provided 39 sets of PPE. Likewise, all the wards of Sanibheri Rural Municipality has distributed reliefs to 252 needy families. Red Cross Society has distributed 5/5 blankets, 40/40 soaps, 2/2 buckets to the District Prison and District Police Office. They also provided 4 rolls of ropes to the District Police Office for use.

According to the District Representative of Humla, Nanda Singh, a woman living in quarantine at the Kailash Secondary School complains of not getting any facilities from the ward office. Her complaint was about not having a bed, electricity, and drinking water. And also from the five days, no one had visited her for a check-up. Whereas Dan Bahadur Bohora, the health coordinator of the rural municipality shares of not needing to examine those who are in quarantine, the ones with bad health are immediately shifted to the isolation ward.

Meanwhile, considering the risk of coronavirus infection, Adhar Bikash Nepal has donated health equipment worth 3 million to the isolation ward established in Humla. They were provided with two Multifunction Monitors, one ECG monitor, one Nebulization Machine, one Amblu Log, one ECG, one USG machine, one oxygen concentrator, one octoclev and surgical materials.

Likewise, Kharpunath Rural Municipality has received medical equipment worth a million on 8 April. Since Kharpunath Rural Municipality was not provided with any health equipment by the provincial government, hence, they bought it on their own, informed chairperson Karna Bahadir Rawal. There are 25 sets of PPE, three pcs of thermogenic, masks and sanitizers.

According to the District Representative of Kalikot, Kali Bahadur Malla, police has arrested three men for creating chaos from Sannitribeni rural municipality-6. Likewise, Parbati Singh (32) of the same rural municipality and the vice-coordinator of the CPN Provincial Assembly was beaten for giving the news of the lockdown by Panchadeval Secondary School Building Construction Consumer Committee’s Chairperson Khagendra Bahadur Shahi, his wife Jaya Devkota Shahi, Netra Shahi, Mana Raj Shahi, Dharma Shahi, Ashok Shahi, Krishna Shahi and Hari Shahi. Parbati Singh was beaten for giving the news of disobeying lockdown and resuming the work of construction of Panchadeval Secondary School.

According to the District Representative of Salyan, Mina Budhathoki, Kumakh and Darma Rural Municipality are testing the samples from the people coming back from India and other countries. 153 people are returning from India and seven from the third country. 244 people are coming from various districts. There are 168 people in quarantine in this rural municipality and 236 have returned home after their quarantine stay.

Meanwhile, the Economy Affairs and Plan Minister Prakash Jwala and Political Advisor of the Chief Minister, Bhim Prasad Sharma have provided necessary health equipment in their expenses to all the six local levels. They provided 10 sets PPE, 2000 pcs surgical masks and one carton cetamol. Three samples have been collected from men returning from India. Three of them are in quarantine right now. These samples were sent to the Surkhet Provincial Hospital.

According to the District Representative of Dolpa, Bishnu Prasad Devkota, District Administration declared a prohibition till 15 April, midnight. They did it since the people were not taking the lockdown seriously.
