For the control and prevention of coronavirus outbreak, province and local governments claim to have various interventions. However, Hetauda Hospital of Makawanpur has only 75 pieces of PPE equipments among which, some were sewed in local tailor and the rest were provided by the local youth club. According to medical superintendent Dr Pravin Shrestha, these equipment are used only to take out sample swab from suspected cases.
The meeting of Hetauda Sub-Metropolitan City on April 5 has decided to establish one door relief distribution system to avoid unmanaged relief distribution by any person or organization.
According to Dhading District Representative Sitaram Adhikari, due to the lockdown in Khaniyabash Rural Municipality-2 Kyung Village, 62 households are facing food scarcity problem. The village has a majority of Tamang community people and most of them are daily wage earners. During 12 days lockdown Tangdol Tamang, Kanchha Tamang, Chokta Tamang, Ambar Tamang and Tek Bahadur Tamang were not being able to earn their daily wage and there is not enough food stored in their houses. Ward Chairperson Tek Bahadur Tamang has said that the rural municipality is collecting data of the people in need of emergency support and planning to distribute food materials to them.
According to Nuwakot District Representative Navadip Shrestha, 460 people of the district are staying in self-quarantine with normal health condition. During the coronavirus outbreak, Bidur Municipality has distributed relief packages to 786 households of daily wage earners and marginalized community people.
The meeting of District Level Disaster Management Centre held in District Administration Office on April 5 to prevent the spread of COVID-19 has decided to request local levels to provide required supports to the people in need, specifically those working in the brick factory.
Local governments of the district are collecting data of daily wage workers and low economic background people to provide emergency support. Nuwakot district hospital has started “Fever Clinic” service and 221 people were tested for fever on April 5.
According to Sindhupalchok District Representative Natibabu Dhital, there are 267 recorded foreign returnees in the district. Local governments have started to collect accurate data to track suspected and infected coronavirus cases.
Sunkoshi Rural Municipality-5 situated Quarantine Shelter kept 24 people in quarantine who were returning from Kathmandu on April 3. Also, 10 people are kept in quarantine and 3 more were staying in isolation until April 5.
According to District Representative of Sindhuli Bimala Pandey, Marin Rural Municipality has established 6.5 Million NPR “Corona Virus Emergency fund.” The rural municipality meeting has decided to use that fund for emergency relief packages, awareness-raising programs, and strict implementation of lockdown.
Kamalamai Municipality has rescued 27 pedestrians who were walking on the BP Highway. They were provided with food and given transportation to reach their homes in Saptari.
According to District Representative of Dolakha Uddhav Poudel, Melung Rural Municipality has started an awareness-raising campaigns against COVID-19 spread. Elected representatives being mobilized in grass root level are collecting data of the people in emergency need, monitoring lockdown and supporting health workers.
District level government mechanisms including District Administration Office, District Coordination Committees, and local governments are collectively implementing the prevention and control plans to fight against coronavirus outbreak.
According to Bhaktapur District Representative Ramesh Giri, lockdown is not effectively implemented in Bhaktapur Municipality and Suryabinayak Chok areas. People are not maintaining social distancing, and police administration is not acting strictly to support the lockdown. Bhaktapur Municipality Mayor Madan Sundar Shrestha has informed that 7,000 people are provided emergency relief packages. Suryabinayak Municipality Chief administrative Officer Kamal Gyanwali has said that municipality has collected data of 5,161 people to provide relief packages.
According to Lalitpur District Representative Dipak Prasad Ghimire, any COVID-19 case has not been found in the district so far. However, local governments are alert and prepared to prevent coronavirus spread. Chief District Officer Bhagirath Pandey has said that currently district has 61 ambulances in service and they are planning to add more ambulances.
Lalitpur Metropolitan City along with 3 other local governments has started to collect data of poor families to provide the necessary support. Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan has informed that metropolitan city office will finalize data collection until April 5 so that relief distribution goes smoothly.
A suspected case of COVID-19 has been admitted to Isolation Ward of Patan Hospital on April 5. Nara Bajrabarahi Chapagaun Hospital has started to publish everyday status report of COVID-19 cases.
The hospitals of Lalitpur district are running out of blood since the coronavirus outbreak. Before the coronavirus outbreak, the situation in the hospitals was normal, and blood donation programs were held every day in the blood bank. Nepal Redcross Society Llaitpur President Baburaja Maharjan has said that so far, only 15-20 pints of blood have been collected during this outbreak and they have prepared 108 people for emergency blood donation.
According to Chitwan District Representative Dipendra Adhikari, 15 people’s coronavirus test samples have been sent to Hetauda hospital. In Bharatpur, 4 people are admitted to the isolation ward in Corona Hospital, and a person in isolation ward and 5 in Intensive Care Unit are kept in Bharatpur hospital.
Since Chitwan Administration is strictly implementing the lockdown, 16 people who broke the lockdown rules have been arrested. COVID-19 Test Laboratory has been established in Bharatpur and local governments are collecting data of the people who need emergency support, and have started to distribute essential food materials.
According to Kavre District Representative Hiraman Tamang, Panauti Municipality has organized an emergency meeting to collect data of daily wage earners and very poor families to be provided emergency support. Mayor Bhim Neupane has said that the municipality has prepared the criteria for making relief distribution effective. Until April 5, the municipality had provided essential food materials to 130 people. Various organizations and people have contributed to the municipality established “Food Bank.”
Banepa Municipality has provided emergency support packages to 8 very poor families and daily wage earners of the municipality.
According to Ramechhap District Representative Navaraj Pathik, 15 people who were in quarantine returned home after completion of 14 days quarantine period. District Health Office Chief Jitendra Kumar Karna has said that total 65 foreign returnees are kept in quarantine in different shelters of the district and 57 people are kept in-home quarantine. Karna also informed that altogether 400 health workers have been mobilized to prevent COVID-19 spread.
According to Rasuwa District Representative Hemanath Khatiwada, 600 workers of different projects are left stranded due to the lockdown. They came from various places in the country to work in informal sectors. In the district, quarantine and isolation shelters along with PPE equipments are in shortage.
In the district, 50 beds quarantine and 15 beds isolation shelters have been established. Local governments in coordination with health workers and district level mechanisms have been working in the field level to prevent and control coronavirus spread.
