Social Activist Baral Awarded with 25th Prakash Human Rights Award

Social Activist Guru Prasad Baral was presented with a 25th Prakash Human Rights Award-2019 in 27th memorial day of INSEC founder general secretary and Human Rights activist late Prakash Kafle.

The award was presented to him during a program organized by INSEC in Morang on 1 August.

In the program, Chief Guest Honorable Governor of Province one Pro. Dr. Govinda Bahadur Tumbahang, Chief Minister Sherdhan Rai, INSEC chairperson Dr. Indira Shrestha has presented the award along with letter of honor, a copper plate, cash and token of love.

Speaking on the program Chief Guest Honorable Tumbahang said human rights sector is widening their field wider than before. He also recalled in history of Nepal men from lower class was not allowed to vote and later through the movement men got the right to vote but women was not allowed to cast their vote.

Later on women secured their right to vote after protesting for their right.

He also said the role of INSEC in Nepal’s human rights movement is remarkable.

On the occasion chief minister of Province one Sherdhan Rai said constitution of Nepal is human rights friendly. He also said he is fully committed to establishing the right of people by literally following the rights guaranteed by the constitution.

Chief Minister rai also added provincial government is planning different programs to honor the people died in human rights movement.

INSEC chairperson Dr. Indira Shrestha said INSEC has been showing the human rights situation of Nepal by documenting and disseminating the human rights violation incidents in Nepal.

Chairperson Shrestha also added INSEC has been encouraging people who are working on human rights and social sector especially on the sector of violation against women and child, on basis of that Guru Prasad Baral of Morang is presented by the Prakash Human Rights award this year.

Speaking on the ceremony, INSEC’s founder chairperson and President’s Political and Human rights expert Sushil Pyakurel said INSEC has made its distinct identity on human rights sector and will continue to honor different suitable persons.

Taking about the contribution of late Prakash Kafle for protection and promotion of human rights in Nepal, INSEC has following the dream of late Kafle by continually campaigning for protection and promotion of human rights in Nepal.

Pyakurel also said, to make election fair and clean late kafle started first campaign of election monitoring and now his campaign is been followed by some other countries in the world.

Speaking on the occasion, member of provincial parliament and central member of Samajwadi party Jayaram Yadav said human rights will be fully guaranteed if only after demolishing all kind of discrimination against sex, race and color.

Subodh Raj Pyakurel, former chairperson of INSEC and vice chairperson of Policy and Planning Commission of Province 1 said not only the human rights activist, INSEC has been honoring the individual who is working for protection of human rights.

Bhim Ghimire, chairperson of Chamber of Commerce, Morang, said Baral is involved in clean politics and his contribution in education sector cannot be compared. INSEC has honored the right campaign and campaigner.

The awarded personnel Guru Baral said many children are still deprived of quality education. He further added poverty line was unable to cross because government has not provided technical knowledge and quality education.

He thanked INSEC for working openly for economic, social and cultural rights under the human rights. He said the prize money of Rs.50,000 provided by INSEC will be used to upgrade the quality of community school.

On the occasion, Ramesh Chandra Paudel, general secretary of INSEC and coordinator of award selection committee stated the contribution of award recipient Baral.

On the award ceremony, video documentary regarding contribution of Baral was screened.
