The inmates and detainees in Dillibazar prison are facing crisis due to the overcrowding. There are inmates and detainees doubled the capacity of the building creating health risk to majority of inmates.
The prison building has a capacity to accommodate only 300 inmates and detainees however there are 608 inmates and detainees of which 355 are inmates and 253 are detainees according to the jail administration.
The building is located in four ropani of land and the administration is compelled to put security guard on a same building creating space problem. The prison administration said that extra building is necessary for the proper management of the inmates and detainees.
The inmates and detainees are facing health issues such as skin diseases, jaundice, diabetes and respiratory diseases. Majority of ill patients are getting treatment at Bir Hospital.
