Commission formed to Investigate Disappeared people itself is “Disappeared”

The conflict victim’s family of Gulmi said that the commission formed to investigate the whereabouts of their loved ones itself is “disappeared” . The victim’s family, in one program, complained commission of not playing any role to find the whereabouts of their loved ones.

Conflict victim Dhankala of Resunga Municipality-2 showed her dissatisfaction saying that her husband Sher Bahadur Thapa was disappeared in 2001 and till now his whereabouts is not known.

However, member Aai Bahadur Gurung and his team from the commission said that interaction and discussion program is continuing with the conflict victims family members.

Conflict victim Durga Datta Dhakal of kali Gandaki Rural Municipality-4 said that his application lodged at the commission is not processed yet. His son was disappeared in 2003 and till now family do not know what had happened to him.

Durga Bahadur Gharti, almost eighty years of age said that he do not have any expectation to get relief from the commission. His son was also disappeared during armed conflict. He added that many times he lodged complaint at commission and peace committee however they are apathetic on this issue.

Activist Ganesh Shrestha said that investigation committee itself is in disappeared state and no relief has been provided yet.

Chief Laxman Parajuli of District Coordination Committee and FNJ chair Nawa Raj Bhushal urged that micro investigation is needed to work for the conflict victims. Commission’s member Aai Bahadur Gurung said that extra investigation is undergoing as the information received from the commission is insufficient.
