There is no Dashain environment and jubilant in the camps of flood victims in Surkhet. They are compelled to live under the tent from the last four years.
Ram Bahadur Nepali from Girighat camp said that they cannot forget the pain of flood even at the time of festival as they are not re established. Majority of the displaced do not have space to do festive rituals. They are facing difficulties underneath the tent. Flood victims from Barahataal, Panchapuri, Birendranagar and Bheriganga Rural municipalities are compelled to live displaced life underneath the tent.
The flood followed by the incessant rain fall in 2014, August 13 and 14 had destroyed many houses along with the loss of life. More than 970 families were displaced and 115 died due to the calamities.
Majority of the flood victims in Girighat camp are from Haripur village under Barahataal Rural Municipality. Locals from Sisneri, Dopka, Thapadera are compelled to live in the Girighat Jungle near Birendranagar valley after their land turned into the bank of river due to the flood. Flood victims are very furious as they are not re established even after four years.
Victim Lalit Bahadur Shahi complained that the rural municipality have bought budget for two times however their issues are never addressed.
Local representative have tagged this issue as “national issue” and refused to address it. Their issues are neither addressed by local representatives nor by the state.
