Police arrested Mangali Shrestha, 36 and Rakesh Shrestha of Syaule, Chautara Sangachokgadhi Municipality-1, on September 23 for the charges of abusing and torturing an 11-year-old girl. The accused allegedly tied the girl with a rope and subjected her to severe torture after accusing her of stealing a mobile phone. They reportedly struck her with a hot rod on various parts of her body, poured cold water over her, and kept her bound throughout the night.
The girl was rescued while still tied up and taken to the local health post, according to Mithu Tamang of Syaule. The health post in-charge, Asmita Karki, reported that the girl had burn marks from the hot rod, bruises from being beaten with a stick, rope marks on her hands, and overall signs of physical exhaustion. She was also mentally traumatized, and therefore, the case was referred to the Ward Office for due-process and justice.
Ward Chairperson Yublal Shrestha of Ward No. 1 stated that he has been taking initiatives to ensure the girl receives treatment as well as justice. The victim was later taken to Chautara Hospital for further medical care.
