Escaped Inmate Handed Over to Police After He Surrendered to INSEC

Suresh Adhikari, 29, of Indrawati Rural Municipality-11, who had escaped from Jhumka Jail in Sunsari, surrendered to the INSEC representative office in Sindhupalchowk on 16 September. He was subsequently handed over to the District Police Office. Adhikari had absconded from the jail on 9 September following the vandalism and arson carried out by protesters at Jhumka Jail. Adhikari stated that he left the jail during the protest with permission from the jail administration. However, when they later asked to return, he was worried about his safety, so he surrendered under the guidance of a human rights activist.

Suresh Adhikari was handed over to the District Police Office by the INSEC representative on 16 September. DSP Madhav Prasad Kharel of the District Police Office expressed his gratitude to INSEC Sindhupalchowk for their assistance. DSP Kharel also informed that Adhikari has been sent to Chautara jail the same day.

Suresh Adhikari has already served nine years and six months of his sentence in a rape case and has only six months remaining.
