Four Family Displaced by Landslide in Gulmi

A landslide that occurred on September 12 at Tunipata in Malika Rural Municipality-7, Ghamir, has displaced four families. As the landslide continued to expand, the families of Ana Bahadur Roka Magar, Thamman Bahadur BK, Purna Bahadur BK, and Tika Bahadur BK were compelled to seek temporary shelter with neighboring households, according to local Tejendra Aryal. Locals say about 80 % of the residents belong to the Dalit community.

Dem Bahadur Khatri of Malika Rural Municipality-7, Ghamir stated that a large landslide occurred above the settlement, and with continuous rainfall over the past two days, residents have had to remain awake throughout the night in fear. The landslide swept away the Gurase–Isma drinking water pipeline, disrupting the water supply to several settlements in Isma Rural Municipality.

The water supply has been cut off for four days, and workers cannot repair it until the rains stop, said Krishna Prasad Rijal, Chairperson of the Isma Drinking Water Board. Rekha Kumar GC, Chairperson of Malika Rural Municipality-5, said the immediate priority is managing the displaced families to prevent casualties.
