Two Inmates Killed, Seven Injured after Security Forces Open Fire at Dhading Jail

Two inmates were killed and seven others injured when security personnel opened fire at Dhading Jail after prisoners attempted to break open the main gate and escape on September 10, 2025. According to Chief District Officer Bijay Raj Subedi, the inmates tried to force their way out by pelting stones at the Nepal Army, Armed Police Force, and Nepal Police, after which the security forces fired shots to control the situation. The deceased have been identified as Jit Bahadur Ghale, 61, of Benighat Rorang Rural Municipality-4 and Indra Bahadur Dala, 36, of Sunwal Municipality-12, Nawalparasi.

Among the injured are Dambar Bahadur Dahal, 85, of Dhunibesi Municipality-7,Krishna Bahadur Moktan,67, of Gajuri-6, Kapil Pariyar,42, of Tripurasundari-1, Devaraj Adhikari,46, of Gajuri-8, Mem Bahadur Tamang,42, of Gangajamuna-2, Ramsharan Pariyar,41, of Nilkantha-7, and Bikash Gurung,34, of Netrabati Dabjong-5. Hospital information officer Dr. Asmita Katuwal Chhetri informed that all of the injured were given primary treatment at Dhading Hospital before being referred to Kathmandu for further care.

The inmates had demanded their release, citing the recent release of former Home Minister Rabi Lamichhane and other prisoners from Nakkhu Jail. When their demand was not met, they set fire and vandalized inside the jail in protest. The fire was later brought under control with the help of the Nilkantha Municipality fire brigade, and security surveillance around the jail has been tightened.

At present, Dhading jail houses 234 inmates, including nine women.
