The embassies of Australia, Finland, France, Japan, the Republic of Korea, the United Kingdom, Norway, Germany, and the United States situated in Nepal have expressed deep sorrow over the violent incidents that took place in Kathmandu and other parts of the country on September 8.
In a joint statement, the embassies conveyed their concern over the tragic loss of lives and the many injuries resulting from the protests. The press release states that “Our governments reaffirm their strong support for the universal rights to peaceful assembly and freedom of expression. We urge all parties to exercise maximum restraint, to seek peaceful solutions without further escalation, and to ensure the full protection of these fundamental rights.”
