Over 11,000 Households in Rukum West at Risk of Disaster

Over 11,000 households in Rukum West are at risk of disasters. Altogether, 11,229 households with a population of 59,974 across six municipalities are vulnerable to earthquakes, floods, landslides, and wildfires. The District Administration Office, in coordination with local governments, has prepared the District Disaster Preparedness and Response Plan 2025. Chief District Officer Kulbahadur GC informed that the plan outlines at-risk wards, population figures, past damages, area-specific action plans, and a clear division of responsibilities. He noted that the district’s geographical features with unplanned construction activities, have heightened its exposure to disasters.

According to the plan, all 14 wards of Musikot Municipality, including the district headquarters, have 84 households and 740 people at risk. In Chaurjahari Municipality, 840 households with a population of 3,770 are identified as vulnerable, while in Aathbisikot Municipality, 2,221 households and 9,125 individuals face similar risks. Data from Banfikot Rural Municipality shows that Ward No. 7 is especially affected, with 885 households and 2,469 residents exposed to potential hazards.

Approximately 6,689 ropani of land has also been damaged in the area. In Sanibheri Rural Municipality, 11,280 households with a population of 20,350 are at risk. The Rural Municipality has reported that all settlements within its wards, along with 10,500 square meters of land, are at risk. Similarly, in Triveni Rural Municipality, 5,019 households with a population of 23,520 across 10 wards are vulnerable. The response plan further states that 7,425 ropani of land in the area is at risk of damage, with all settlements in the wards considered exposed to potential hazards.
