Victims Didn’t Receive Relief Despite Their Houses Being Damaged Due to Rainfall

Due to continuous rainfall from July 27 to July 30, nine families in Charap of Chhayanath Rara Municipality-10 have been displaced after their houses collapsed. According to victim Srijana Baduwal, four houses were completely destroyed while five others were partially damaged, forcing the affected families to take shelter in their neighbors’ homes. Despite the severity of the damage, the victims have not yet received any relief from the government.

According to victim Sirjana Baduwal, no government agency has provided relief so far. She stated that all the houses have collapsed, forcing the affected families to take shelter in neighboring homes. Baduwal further mentioned that the government has not even provided tarpaulins, and essential items such as food and utensils have been buried in the debris. Despite seven days having passed since the incident, the victims complained that no authority except the police had come to assess the damage.

Chief District Officer Kamal Prasad Pandey, who also serves as the coordinator of the District Disaster Management Committee, admitted that there had been delays in providing relief. He stated that, according to the Local Level Relief Procedure 2024, the municipality is required to provide immediate relief and later seek approval from the District Disaster Management Committee. As such, Chhayanath Rara Municipality is responsible for promptly distributing relief.

According to the District Police Office, the houses of Sher Bahadur Aidi, Danta Aidi, Bhim Bahadur Baduwal, and Sirjana Aidi of Chhayanath Rara Municipality–10, Charap were completely damaged. Additionally, the houses of Harichandra Aidi, Unarupa Baduwal, Dal Bahadur Baduwal, Rajendra Aidi, and Dal Bahadur Aidi located nearby were partially damaged.
