Twenty-nine Minors Raped in Last Three Years in Jajarkot

Girls in Jajarkot are becoming increasingly unsafe, with reported cases of rape and sexual abuse rising each year. According to Deputy Superintendent of Police Basanta Kumar Sharma of the Jajarkot District Police Office, a total of 29 girls have been raped over the past three fiscal years. Similarly, six girls have been subjected to sexual abuse during the same period. The data is of the fiscal years 2022/2023 to 2024/2025.

Similarly, the Nepal Human Rights Yearbook 2025 by INSEC has documented three cases of rape and five cases of sexual abuse against minor girls in Jajarkot. Additionally, INSEC has recorded two cases of rape and one case of sexual abuse against minor girls between January and July 2025.

Most of the accused are found to be relatives or someone known by the victims, according to DSP Sharma. He stated that in order to ensure the safety of girls, awareness campaigns need to be conducted from households to communities. If timely action is not taken, the number of such incidents is likely to continue increasing each year.
Over the past three years, police received reports of 72 missing children, the majority of whom were girls. According to the police, most of them were later found and handed over to their families.

Locals and human rights defenders have emphasized the need to take such incidents involving minors seriously, stressing that parents, schools, communities, and state must all take responsibility.
