Police have arrested absconded accused of abducting, holding captive, raping, and killing a six-year-old girl from Bardibas Municipality-14. SP Heramba Sharma of the District Police Office Mahottari said they arrested Rajkishor Shah, 60, and Sushila Devi Shah, 51, both of Bardibas-14, from Nainahi in Jaleshwar-12 after four years and seven months on the run. The police announced the arrest publicly on June 29.
It is reported that on November 22, 2020, Arunkumar Shah, 26 of Bardibas Municipality-14 lured the girl to his house, where he raped and killed her. Police arrested Arun shortly after the incident, while his father Rajkishor Shah, and mother Sushila Devi, who were also involved in the crime, had absconded.
SP Sharma said a joint police team from the Area Police Office Bardibas and the District Police Office arrested the two accused based on information that they had come to visit relatives in Nainahi, Jaleshwar Municipality-12. Police investigations have shown that after raping the girl, Arunkumar Sah killed her and, with the help of his father and mother, hid her body inside a sack in the bushes. Arun, who was arrested shortly after the incident, was sent to pre-trial detention on December 20, 2020. A bench of District Court Judge Ram Chandra Khadka later found him guilty and sentenced him to life imprisonment.
