Umesh Darji, 24, of Sunbarshi Municipality-2, Morang an inmate at the District Jail died on June 24 as per the Morang Jail administration. Jailer Gaurab Dhungel stated that Darji died during treatment at Birat Teaching Hospital in Budhiganga on June 24. He had been initially admitted to Koshi Hospital on June 13 after experiencing fever and swelling in his legs. However, he was later referred to Birat Teaching Hospital on June 17 for further care.
Darji, who had been undergoing treatment for a long time, showed no signs of improvement in his health. Convicted in a drug-related case, Darji had been serving his sentence since December 19, 2024. The Morang District Court had sentenced him to five years and two months in prison along with a fine of Rs. 7,000. The deceased’s body was handed over to the family on June 24 and was cremated at the Bakraha River bank in Sunbarshi.
