Accused Senetend to Life Imprisonment for Killing Minor After Rape

The District Court of Gulmi sentenced Rahis Khan of Khajura Rural Municipality-4, Banke to life imprisonment on June 18 for killing a 15-year-old girl after raping her. Khan had raped and killed the minor in Shantipur of Chandrakot Rural Municipality–4, Gulmi, on November 2 and had thrown the body into a stream. The bench of the District Court Judge Yubaraj Gautam sentenced Khan to 14 years of imprisonment for rape and imposed a fine of Rs. 500,000 in accordance with the Criminal Code 2017.

Likewise, in the killing charge, the court has sentenced the accused to life imprisonment and ordered a compensation of Rs. 300,000. According to the new provision of the Criminal Code, life imprisonment has been categorized into two types. Sudarshan Khanal, the court registrar, informed that as per Section 41 of the Criminal Code 2017, if a person kills after rape, the accused shall be sentenced to life imprisonment for as long as they live.

On March 30, the girl was found naked in the Hungdi river near her home in Shantipur. Following this,locals staged protests, against the incident suspecting killing after rape. Police arrested Khan on the same day. The aggrieved party filed a complaint against Khan at the District Police Office, Gulmi on March 31. The postmortem of the body was done at Juhang Primary Health Center on November 5.
