Accused Arrested in Forced Abortion Case

Police arrested in-laws on June 11 for allegedly forcing a 20-year-old woman to take medication to abort her pregnancy. The victim reported that her in-laws forcibly gave her medication on the night of June 10, while she was asleep. After experiencing severe abdominal pain shortly after, she reached out to the police with the help of her neighbours.

The police took her to Gajendra Narayan Singh Hospital, Rajbiraj, for treatment on the same day. Dr. Prakash Prasad Sah, the Medical Superintendent of the hospital stated that the pregnancy was terminated due to pain and bleeding. Dr. Sah confirmed that the victim was 17 weeks pregnant.

SP Dhakendra Khatiwada of the District Police Office, Saptari, informed that the accused have been taken into custody for investigation. He further stated that legal action will be taken against the guilty in accordance with the law.
