Five families from Tegha of Jugal Rural Municipality–2, displaced after their houses were swept away by floods and landslides remain without shelter. The continues rainfall that took place from 24 to 30 September, 2024 destroyed many houses across the district, including those of Tenzing Sherpa, Mingmar Sherpa, Lakpa Sherpa, Dharke Sherpa, and Pemba Sherpa in Tegha. The floods and landslides also resulted in 10 deaths and two missing persons in the district.

The displaced families have been living at relatives’ houses or in open grounds after losing their homes. The Sherpa community of Tegha, who rely on livestock for their livelihood, have faced significant hardship. An NGO in the district provided materials to help build shelters, and Lakpa Sherpa shared that they are currently constructing huts in Chitre of Chautara Sangachokgadhi Municipality–1.
Although the government provided NPR 300,000 to the displaced families, Dharke Sherpa said the amount was insufficient for building proper shelter. The continuous rainfall in September 2024 also damaged important infrastructure, including the Larcha Bridge in Bhote Koshi Rural Municipality–3, the concrete bridge connecting Liping and Kodari in Bhote Koshi Rural Municipality–2 on the Araniko Highway, and another Bailey bridge in the same ward, leading to the closure of the Nepal-China border. Overall, 65 houses were destroyed across the district. Kiran Thapa, Coordinator of the Disaster Management Committee and Chief District Officer, stated that although most displaced people have been resettled, the five families from Tegha have not yet received proper shelter due to various reasons. He added that shelter arrangements will be made for them with support from various aid organizations.
