The bench of Chitwan District Court Judge Durga Devi Gurung on May 27 sentenced Santosh Ram, 19, of Bharatpur Metropolitan City-15, to 12 years in prison for raping a 14-year-old minor. In addition to the prison term, the court ordered Ram to pay a fine of Rs 500,000, compensation of Rs 20,000 to the aggrieved party, and Rs 50,000 to the Victim’s Relief Fund.
The aggrieved party had filed a complaint against Ram at the District Police Office, Chitwan on September 29, 2022 alleging that he had raped the girl on the same day at Gopalchowk, Bharatpur Metripolitan City-15, Chitwan.
The health examination of the girl was done at the Bharatpur Hospital on September 29. The accused was arrested on the same day. The bench of Judge Uddhav Bhattarai on October 20, 2022 had ordered Ram to be remanded in custody for pre-trial detention.
