The District Court sentenced Machhenarayan Shrestha, a teacher at Jorpati Secondary School in Tinpipley, Panchkhal Municipality–6, to 24 days of imprisonment for sexually abusing a 15-year-old girl. The bench of Chief Justice Matrika Prasad Acharya of the District Court Kavrepalanchok on May 6 sentenced the accused to imprisonment along with a fine of Rs. 45,000, and compensation of Rs. 50,000. Machhenarayan Shrestha was arrested on December 24, 2023, for the charge of raping the Dalit girl.
The aggrieved party filed a complaint at the District Police Office on December 24, alleging that the girl was taken to a hotel in Banepa and raped on October 28, 2023. On the same day, students of the school staged a protest in front of the school, accusing the teacher of repeatedly sexually abusing the girl.
In this case, the District Government Attorney’s Office filed charges at the District Court on January 11, and Shrestha was sent to Dhulikhel Prison for pre-trial detention on January 14. The incident has been categorized as child sexual abuse as per the verdict.
