Police arrested Ram Bihari Safi,27, originally from Golbazar, Dhangadhimai Municipality-7, Siraha and currently residing in Sinamangal on April 2 for the charge of character assassination of a 25-year-old woman through social media, according to Superintendent of Police Dipak Raj Awasthi of the Cyber Bureau, Nepal Police Headquarters.
The arrest was made after receiving a complaint that he connected with the woman on Facebook, posted her private photos and videos on social media during their meetings, and subsequently threatened her relatives. The case against Safi has been filed under the Electronic Transactions Act, 2006. The Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police Headquarters informed that the Kathmandu District Court granted a four-day extension for further investigation.
