Police arrested 42-year-old local health volunteer Yamunadevi Naral of Paanchkhal Municipality-13 Koshidekha on April 5 for allegedly engaging in caste-based discrimination against ward member Bimala Bishwakarma, 35. DSP Min Bahadur Ghale of the District Police Office stated that she had been taken into custody for investigation. The aggrieved party had filed a complaint at the District Police Office on April 4, stating that while she was attending a meeting at the Nepali Congress party office on the morning of April 3, the accused verbally abused her with derogatory remarks and forcefully drove her out of the house.
The aggrieved party filed the complaint under Section 166, which prohibits caste-based untouchability and discriminatory behavior, in the presence of Dalit rights activists. She was elected a Dalit member of the Nepali Congress in the recent local elections.
