INSEC Condemns Violence and Calls for Accountability in Protest-Related Unrest

The Informal Sector Service Centre (INSEC) has strongly condemned the arson, vandalism, and looting that occurred during protests organized by supporters of the former king in Kathmandu. In a statement issued today, INSEC expressed grave concern over violating democratic principles and the fundamental right to security of life and property.

The statement, signed by INSEC Chairperson Dr. Kundan Aryal, highlighted the loss of life during the unrest: “A journalist was killed in the arson committed under the pretext of protest. Additionally, reports indicate that a protester has also lost their life. The attacks on political party offices and media institutions in the name of demonstrations cannot be justified as democratic exercises.” INSEC has urged the Government of Nepal to uphold its duty to protect citizens, ensure that those responsible for the violence are brought to justice, and implement robust security measures to prevent such incidents in the future. The organization also extended its condolences to the bereaved families and wished a swift recovery for those injured.
