The Federation of Nepalese Journalists Ramechhap issued a press release on March 17, protesting against repeated threats made via phone calls and SMS by Kamala Basnet Karki, 44, agent of Nepal Life Insurance, Manthali branch, currently residing in Manthali Municipality-1. The threats were directed at Milan BK, 26, Executive Committee Member of the Federation of Nepalese Journalists, Ramechhap, over a news report published online on March 16.
Milan BK had published a video report online on March 15, featuring details provided by another agent, Krishna Bahadur Thapa, alleging that Kamala Basnet had vandalized the Nepal Life Insurance Manthali branch office.
On March 16, an online broadcast of Kamala Basnet’s viewpoint on the matter was also aired. In response to the video, Basnet reportedly made repeated threats to journalist Milan BK over the phone, even insulting him on the basis of his caste. The Federation expressed its objection to this through the press release.
