Journalist Devaraj Yadav, 21, from Koshi Municipality-8 has accused Subodh Yadav,32, of Basantapur, Harinagar Rural Municipality-5, and the operator of Koshi Care Hospital, Koshi Municipality-8, of beating him. According to the victim, Subodh Yadav beat him on the night of March 14 for filming a video at the hospital.
Devaraj Yadav during a meeting with an INSEC representative said that he filed a complaint at the District Administration Office for his safety on March 15 as he was subjected to beating and had received death threats. Chief District Officer Dhamendra Kumar Mishra stated that he has received information about the incident and assured that they will investigate the case and take necessary legal action if the accused is found guilty. The victim journalist accused Subodh Yadav, the hospital operator, of assaulting him after he was allegedly intoxicated and questioned why he was filming a video at the hospital. However, the victim clarified that he was not filming a video but was engaged in a live conversation on Facebook when the accused assaulted him.
The victim sustaining head injury from the beating received treatment at Sapta Koshi Neuro Hospital in Bhokraha Narsingh Rural Municipaity-4. The 1998 Declaration on Human Rights Defenders defines journalists as human rights defenders.
