The District Court sentenced Bikash Tharu, 18, of Geruwa Rural Municipality-5, Bindra to 12-year-imprisonment for the charge of raping a 16-year-old minor. The bench of the District Court Judge Manoj Shrestha on 11 March gave the following verdict along with a fine of Rs 5,00,000 , Rs 50,000 as compensation, and Rs 20,000 to the victim’s relief fund. The aggrieved party filed a complaint at the District Police Office on September 11, 2024, alleging that the accused raped the minor on September 9. Police arrested the accused on September 10.
The health examination of the victim was done on the same day at Bardiya Hospital, Guleriya. INSEC provided financial support of Rs 10,000 to the rape victim on September 29, 2024 based on the request from the aggrieved party.
