Fourteen Juveniles Transferred from Child Reform Home Biratnagar

Fourteen Juveniles from Biratnagar Child Reform Home were transferred to Jayendu Child Reform Home in Naubasta, Duduwa Rural Municipality-6, Banke. Milan Chauhan, Chief of the Biratnagar Child Reform Home stated that the transfer occurred on March 10. He mentioned that as theJayendu Child Reform holds individuals above 18 years of age, those who had reached the age were sent from Biratnagar to Banke. This occurred following a clash among the juveniles on March 7, 2025.  The clash occurred inside the reform home in Biratnagar Metropolitan City-3, leaving three individuals injured. According to Chauhan, all the injured were 22 years old. Among them, two were from Panchthar, and one was from Sunsari. They were treated at Koshi Hospital on March 7, 2025, and later discharged. Chauhan stated that there had been issues of older individuals mistreating younger ones, along with frequent disputes and clashes inside the correction home and the transfer has temporarily resolved the issue.

The Child Reform Home had recommended the District Administration Office, Morang, to transfer the individuals. Based on this request, the administration obtained approval from the Department of Jail Management and completed the transfer.  Morang Chief District Officer, Indradev Yadav, said the reform home, which had been unsettled due to the clash, is now back to normal. “Some individuals have been transferred. Security has been tightened, and the situation is now under control,” he said.

Although the Child Reform Home in Biratnagar has a capacity of 50, it currently houses 230 individuals. It is meant for children under 17, but due to delays in court proceedings, some who have completed their sentences or are awaiting trial are also living there even after turning 17.
