Discrimination Continues in Practice: Chairperson Pyakurel

Chairperson Subodh Raj Pyakurel of INSEC said that there are no discrimination in law but the discrimination continues in practice.

While addressing the program in Dhulikhel on the National Conference of Human Rights Defender organized by INSEC on December 28 and 29, Pyakurel asked human rights defender to be more active to end the discrimination.photo20161228kabhre-8

Those who dedicate himself for the protection and promotion of Human rights are a Human rights defender, he said. He reminds that all international law and norms have been followed while protecting the human rights of the people.

While inaugurating the National Conference, NHRC member Govinda Sharma Paudyal said that complaints are being lodged at NHRC on the issues of Human Rights defenders. He added that Human Rights defenders must monitor the work of NHRC as well and added to find the draft prepared for human rights defenders which has been presented in Parliament.

SP Shyam Gyawali from Human Rights department of Nepal Police said that whole police department is committed to protect the human rights of the people.

Speaking at the program, Krishna Gautam, INSEC mid-regional coordinator, said that such conference will help to share experience and problems of human rights defenders as they are always at risk. INSEC eastern regional coordinator Som Raj Thapa said that Human Rights defenders will get motivation if worked in a group rather than working alone.

Madan Paudel of INSEC Central Office said that Human Rights defender must work in the boundary of constitution. Samjha Shrestha, senior officer of INSEC central office informed about the protection mechanism of Human Rights defenders.
