Human rights activists have urged Lord Buddha Educational Academy Limited, Nepalgunj Medical College to address the demands of the healthcare workers.
In a press release issued on 23 December , human rights activists drew attention to the fact that for the past six months, the healthcare workers, staff union, and employee association of Nepalgunj Medical College, under the management of Lord Buddha Educational Academy Limited, have been raising various demands. They expressed concern that the management’s indifference towards the movement has negatively affected the health care services provided to citizens.
The press release mentions that along with institutional reforms, the demands for an increase in salary, allowances, service facilities, and career development are being suppressed, which is violating the rights provided under the Labor Act.
The press release further states, “We urge the concerned parties to immediately address the legitimate demands of the workers, create an environment for them to return to regular work, and protect the right of citizens to receive quality services without playing around with sensitive issues like the health of patients.”
Through the press release, the human rights activists have reminded the management of the medical college that when workers raise legitimate demands for the fair value of their labor and their rights, the management’s failure to take these demands seriously and its indifference is directly affecting the health treatment of patients, which is a sensitive area. They pointed out that even after 13 days of the protest, the lack of a proper solution reflects a managerial weakness.
