Three Dead With Over 1,200 Displaced Due to Continuous Rain

District Police Office SP Dilip Ghimire has reported that three people have died and more than 1,245 families have been displaced due to the bursting of the Bagmati and Lalbakaiya rivers in Rautahat when the embankments damaged because of incessant rain since September 26, 2024. After the flood in the Lalbakaiya River eroded its banks and entered the village, 13 out of 18 municipalities suffered physical damage, and three people lost their lives. The casualties include 40-year-old Rajakaran Mukhiya from Durga Bhagwati Municipality-4, 14-year-old Asha Kumari Sah from Narkatiya Tole in Paroha Municipality-7, and 14-year-old Anil Mahatto from Inaruwa in Baudhimaai Municipality-2, as reported by Inspector Umashankar Gupta from the District Police Office.

Similarly, due to the flood, 1,245 households have been displaced in Rautahat, and according to the statistics from the police, 1,805 houses have been affected, resulting in 5,059 families being displaced, as reported by Armed Police Chief Bikram Humagai. Likewise, The flood has destructed several police offices in Rautahat, including the Maulapur Area Police Office, the Kataharia Area Police Office, the Samanpur Police Post in Gadhimai, the Rajpur Area Police Office, and the District Police Office, according to the police. Additionally, When the embankments of the Bagmati and Lalbakaiya rivers broke, people from 13 municipalities were displaced, including Brindavan, Ishanath, Gaur, Madhavanarayan, Baudhimaai, Paroha, Maulapur, Rajdevi, Rajpur, Devahigonaahi, Kataharia Municipality, and Yamunamai and Durga Bhagwati Rural Municipality.

Moreover, Under the command of Nepal Police SP Dilip Ghimire, 104 personnel, under the command of Major Jhanak Thapa from the Nepal Army, 150 personnel, and the command of Armed Police SP Bikram Humagai, 245 personnel have been deployed for relief and rescue efforts, as stated by CDO Hiralal Regmi. He mentioned that with the rain stopping, the water levels in the rivers are decreasing, and the situation is expected to return to normal. He also informed that the heads of the relevant municipalities have been notified to collect and send accurate data on the displaced families.
