Nepal Prepared to Enhance Contributions to Global Peace and Security: Prime Minister

Addressing the 79th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli stated that Nepal is prepared to further enhance its contribution to world peace and security as the largest contributor of army and police in United Nations peacekeeping operations. Prime Minister Oli called upon the global community to unite for peace, sustainable development and advancement of human dignity for the present and future generations without leaving anyone behind.

Prime Minister Oli explained the ups and downs of Nepal’s efforts to establish peace following the armed conflict, informing the General Assembly that Parliament recently passed the transitional justice law under his leadership. Prime Minister Oli has expressed concern that climate disasters, geopolitical competition, and rising military expenditures could lead the world toward instability. He stated that Nepal has prioritized peace and prosperity, successfully ensuring human rights, proportional representation, and social security for at risk communities while incorporating the principles of inclusiveness into the constitution. Prime Minister Oli called on the global community to unite for peace, sustainable development and advancement of human dignity for the present and future generations without leaving anyone behind. Explaining the challenges and achievements of Nepal’s efforts to establish peace following the armed conflict, Prime Minister Oli informed the General Assembly that his government had recently enacted the law on transitional justice.
