The district court has sentenced 19-year-old Bijay Oli of Shantinagar Rural Municipality-2 to 11 years in prison for human trafficking after taking an 18-year-old girl to India and raping her. The bench of District Court Judge Manoj Kumar Sribastaba on 16 September sentenced Bijay to 11 years in prison, along with a fine of Rs 5,00,000, Rs 1,00,000 as compensation, and Rs 1,800 to be deposited in the victim’s relief fund, according to Registrar Damodar Ghimire.
The victim filed a complaint at the Area Police Office in Tulsipur on January 5, 2024, stating that they were taken to India for trafficking, however they managed to escape, and returned to Nepal. A medical examination of the victim was conducted on January 5 at Rapti Provincial Hospital in Tulsipur. The accused was arrested by the police on January 16, and on January 18, the case related to human trafficking and rape was prosecuted.
