Due to the incessant rains, the truss bridge was washed away and the children were deprived of going to school. The school was closed for a week due to the lack of alternative arrangements to cross the river due to the floods in Tunibagar located in Shivalaya Village-6.
After the flood on August 18, 2024, swept away the bridge, the students of Khadgadevi Secondary School in Tunivagar have been affected due to the lack of alternative arrangements for their travel. The school has not been able to operate as there is no alternative route for the students to reach it.The flood washed away the bridge, and due to the lack of an alternative route, the studies of around 350 students at the school have been affected. After the flood destroyed the bridge, children from villages such as Rokaya Jaat, Risina, Tunibagar, and Burda in Shiwalaya Rural Municipality-6 have been deprived of attending school. ।
After the flood washed away the bridge, the school, which had been closed for a week, was officially shut down through a published notice. Janak Budha from Shiwalaya Rural Municipality-6 stated that despite the problems faced by students due to the washed-away bridge, the concerned authorities have not paid attention. As a result, the prolonged closure of the school has deprived children of their education. He emphasized that while quality education is often discussed, there have been no efforts to reopen the school after the flood and landslides blocked the route, forcing children to stay at home.
According to Sher Bahadur Shahi, Chairman of Shiwalaya Rural Municipality, after learning that the flood had damaged the bridge , citizen’s houses, and agricultural land in Tunivagar, he conducted an on-site study. Chairman Shahi informed that since the road is closed and students are unable to attend school, a temporary bridge will be arranged in the river in a few days. After returning from the monitoring he informed Engineer Manoj KC the process for addressing the expenses and immediate solutions for the flood-affected area had begun. He expressed sorrow that the students have been deprived of education due to the bridge being swept away. Chairman Shahi stated that a temporary bridge will be constructed and the school will be operational within a few days.
After the flood and landslides blocked the road, there is no easy access to the village. Principal Bir Bahadur Shahi explained that although a wooden bridge could be used for school students on non-rainy days, the situation becomes difficult during the rainy season. Therefore, the school had to be closed as students would face hardships when it rains.According to Engineer Manoj KC from the rural municipality, arrangements are being made for the locals to manage the wood for constructing a wooden bridge to facilitate the movement of students and the general public. KC mentioned that within a day or two, a temporary wooden bridge will be built by placing a net, which will ease the accessibility.
