Police arrested 32-year-old Nabin Rai of Diktel Rupakot Majhuwagadhi Municipality-11, Kharmi on 19 July 2024. The accused was absconding after the Supreme Court sentenced him to Nine years, four months, and 23 days imprisonment on 11 September 2023 for raping a 6-year-old girl.
Inspector Benu Karki of the District Police Office reported that Rai was arrested on July 19, 2024, from Dharan Sub-Metropolitan Municipality-11 in Sunsari. He was transported to the District on July 20, 2024, and presented in court on July 21, 2024. Following the court proceedings, Rai has been sent to jail for imprisonment.
A complaint was filed against the accused on March 7, 2024, at the District Police Office on the charge of raping the victim on March 6, 2014. The accused was acquitted by District Court Judge Ishwari Prasad Gautam on October 16, 2014. However, the Supreme Court overturned this acquittal on September 11, 2023, mandating imprisonment for the accused.
The health examination of the victim was done at the District Hospital on March 7, 2024.
