A 16-year-old minor staying in Chhaugoth(Menstrual shed) was raped on June 17 in Achham. Police arrested a 17-year-old boy from Pachadewal Binayak Municipality on June 18 for the charge of raping her.
The girl was found unconscious on the morning of June 18. According to DSP Santosh Pathak of Achham, the girl was rescued by a team from the Area Police and Pachadewal Binayak Municipality, led by the Municipality Chief. She was then taken to the District Hospital in Achham for medical treatment. During the health checkup, it was confirmed that the girl had been raped.
It is punishable by law to make someone stay in a menstrual shed during menstruation. However, this has not yet been eradicated. In the last few years, 14 women have lost their lives in Achham district alone due to suffocation, cold, snakebites, and various other reasons while staying in Chhaugoth.
