Police arrested 20-year-old Ramsebak Tharu on June 16 for the charge of abetting the suicide of an 18-year-old girl from Shivaraj Municipality-1, Karahiya.
The 42-year-old father of the deceased filed a complaint at the Ward Police Office, Chandrauta on June 14, alleging that the victim was found hanging on the night of June 8. Additionally, he stated that the victim had written that she had been sexually exploited for a long time by the accused, who had lured her with fake promises of marriage and had cheated her.
DSP Hari Bahadur Wali of the District Police Office informed INSEC that the accused had been arrested based on the same complaint and further investigation is ongoing. DSP Wali further reported that the accused was exploiting the victim by making fake promises of marriage and eventually denied getting married on June 8. The victim then unable to bear the pain was forced to kill herself with a suicide note.
The post-mortem of the body was done on June 9 at Basic Health Services Hospital, Chandrauta. According to the father, the victim’s body was cremated on the same day.
