Police arrested Lalmaya Tamang also known as Asha Lama, 36, of Chhathar Jorpati Rural Municipality-1, Dhankuta, operator of Timure Cafe of Jadibuti, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-12 on January 2024 for charges of trafficking and transporting 16 and 17-year-old girls.
A verbal complaint was filed at the Human Trafficking Investigation Bureau of the Nepal Police, on January 21 alleging that the accused had been forcibly engaging the victim girls in sexual activities for the past three years.
Bureau spokesperson SP Krishna Prasad Pangeni informed INSEC that the accused was arrested on the basis of the same complaint. Similarly, the Bureau’s team rescued the girls. According to SP Pangeni, the police kept the girls in a safe house.
The health examination of the victims was done on January 22 at Prasuti Griha, Thapathali. SP Pageni informed that the accused has been remanded in custody for five days by the district court on January 22.
